LexisNexis Launches Context for Courts, Delivering Venue-Specific Insights for Data-Driven Litigators

NEW YORK, July 17, 2019 — LexisNexis Legal & Professional today announced the launch of Context for Courts, the first expansion of the award-winning contextual case-law analytics solution available through Lexis Advance. Context for Courts delivers deep insights into the rulings and language most cited by more than 5,000 U.S. state and federal courts so litigators can determine how best to argue their case and where to file it for the greatest potential for success. Context is a key component of the Lexis Analytics suite of products that gives lawyers greater knowledge through data-driven insights.

Before filing a case, Context for Courts helps litigators understand how that case might fare in a particular jurisdiction by aggregating and showcasing similar cases that the court has ruled on and the precedent that the court finds most authoritative. Diving deeper into the contextual analytics, attorneys can find the exact language cited the most within that jurisdiction to develop successful legal strategies and the most persuasive arguments possible. Context for Courts complements the powerful judicial and expert witness analytics from Context, making it an indispensable tool for litigators.

“The first step to winning a case is understanding how your jurisdiction thinks about a legal holding. Arguing your case in the right court, anticipating how that court will rule and tailoring your argument to precedent is critical to ensuring the best outcome for clients,” said Jeff Pfeifer, Vice President, Product Management at LexisNexis. “Whether you’re a plaintiff identifying where to file your case or defense counsel considering a transfer of venue, Context for Courts quickly provides critical contextual insights derived from case opinions that attorneys need to make venue decisions based on the precedent the court finds most persuasive.”

Other new features and benefits provided by Context for Courts include:

  1. Cases and judges your court relies on: Context mines rulings by your court to surface the opinions and judges your court finds most persuasive, giving you the exact language you can cut and copy and cite in your brief to get the best results.
  2. Court-level analytics: Gives users an overview of all judges within the jurisdiction and helps users understand how a particular judge fits into that court’s decision trends and patterns.

Context is the first and only contextual analytics solution in the industry. The solution analyzes tens of millions of court documents and extracts specific language that will resonate with a particular venue or judge, including the motions, cases and language most frequently used. It also provides detailed analyses on expert witnesses, including specific reasons why their testimony was excluded and more, so attorneys can better select and defend their expert or impeach the opposition’s expert.
