Progress Partners with DataStax to Provide Data Integration for Cassandra

BEDFORD, Mass., Nov. 20 — Progress today announced that it has partnered with DataStax, the company that delivers Apache Cassandra to the enterprise, to provide customers with enterprise-ready data connectivity and integration solutions for Cassandra. Cassandra is an open source distributed NoSQL database management system that is increasingly popular among developers looking to manage large amounts of data across many commodity servers with no single point of failure. The Cassandra database offers robust support for clusters spanning multiple data centers while allowing for low latency operations.

The partnership comes as a result of increased demand from both Progress DataDirect and DataStax customers for a standards-based solution that allows Cassandra to integrate with existing IT processes and systems, including BI, analytics and ETL. This shortens the integration time, reduces the development effort, and allows for reuse of existing skills, particularly with the database teams that use traditional relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.

The Progress DataDirect for Cassandra driver, currently in beta, is architected to normalize data while delivering the highest performance available. Other market solutions take the approach of flattening the data, an architectural shortcut that complicates BI and can result in data loss. With the DataDirect driver, data is appropriately mapped between SQL and NoSQL with zero data loss. And because users of Cassandra are often dealing with massive volumes of data, the Progress DataDirect driver performance advantage ensures it can be processed with the velocity demanded by systems that operate at cloud-scale.

Michael Benedict, president, data connectivity and integration, Progress, said, “The Progress DataDirect partnership with DataStax demonstrates growing need for Cassandra support in the enterprise. As the data landscape grows, companies will see a need for a solution that can process high-volume, high velocity data capture and analysis. Cassandra fills that void, and the DataDirect for Cassandra driver serves as the connector between data and actionable insights.”

Matt Rollender, vice president, infrastructure and ecosystem development at DataStax, said, “We are privileged to have an active and highly innovative partner network at DataStax. Progress helps provide IT managers with data connectivity and integration solutions for Apache Cassandra.”
