Cloudera Launches Open Source CDH Developer Kit

Isaac Lopez

On Wednesday Night, Cloudera launched its first-ever developer kit aimed at simplifying common tasks and building applications in their CDH Apache Hadoop distribution.

Saying that the company is “acutely aware” of the complexities of Hadoop, the company is releasing their Cloudera Development Kit (CDK) as an open source Apache Software License project that includes libraries, tools, examples and documentation aimed at getting developers from point A to point Z quicker in their Hadoop projects.

The company says that it plans on releasing a number of modules over time, with the first one being the CDK Data Module, a set of high level APIs aimed at simplifying direct reading and writing of datasets in storage subsystems in the Hadoop ecosystem such as HDFS. The company says that the current version of the CDK will launch as 0.2.0, with maintenance releases coming out monthly as the project moves towards a 1.0.0 release.

The Cloudera Development Kit is immediately available for download on GitHub.
