There is an interesting contradiction in AI between rule-based systems and machine learning. While rule-based systems offer better interpretation and transparency, machine learning is significantly better at handling complexity and scalability.

While rules have been an integral component of AI, the recent advancement in machine learning has made it more dominant. The contradiction often arises in scenarios where interpretability is crucial, such as explainable AI.

Franz Inc., the leading supplier of Graph Database technology, has been able to bridge the gap between rule-based systems and machine learning through its knowledge graph solutions, which just got better with the announcement of the new AllegroGraph Cloud – a hosted version of its flagship Neuro-Symbolic AI platform. With the new platform, users have a convenient and easy on-ramp to build advanced AI applications.

Franz’s expert knowledge in developing and deploying Knowledge Graph solutions in combination with LLMs has allowed it to offer a wide range of products, solutions, and consulting services. AllegroGraph is already used by dozens of Fortune 500 companies around the globe, and now with a cloud-hosted version, the platform has become significantly more attractive to customers.

Last month, Franz unveiled AllegroGraph 8.0 – an advanced multi-modal graph, vector, and document database. The new AllegroGraph Cloud will be based on AllegroGraph 8.0, which Franz claims to be one of the more secure triplestore databases on the market.

“While general-purpose LLMs excel at straightforward tasks that do not necessitate background or changing knowledge, addressing more complex, knowledge-intensive queries demands the capabilities provided with a knowledge graph to avoid generating ‘hallucinations,’” said Dr. Jans Aasman, CEO of Franz.

According to Aasman, knowledge graphs provide the perfect complement to LLM-based solutions where there is a need for a high level of accuracy. AllegroGraph 8.0 is designed with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities for advanced knowledge integration and reduced risk of misinformation.

One of the key challenges in the progression of AI is the lack of contextual understanding. AllegroGraph 8.0 approaches this challenge by offering a combination of machine learning and reasoning. This powerful combination of statistical AI and symbolic AI allows for outputs that are understandable and explainable to humans.

Some advancements in AllegroGraph 8.0 include new VectorStore capabilities in the form of Enterprise Document Deep-Insight which offers a seamless bridge between Knowledge Graphs and enterprise documents. Users gain a comprehensive view of enterprise data, allowing them to query data that was previously considered as dark data.

The new LLMagic tools offer a highly intuitive interface based on natural language for querying and reasoning processes. This means users can interact with AllegroGraph in simple language that mimics human interaction.

The built-in rule-based system capabilities have also been enhanced for better predictions or classifications based on data. Additionally, AllegroGraph 8.0 allows users to quickly create ontologies and taxonomies with a reduced need for manual work. You also get enhanced FedShard capabilities making shard management more efficient and straightforward.

Franz has been one of the early adopters of AI and has kept ahead of the curve through innovative solutions. The announcement of AllegroGraph Cloud further reinforces Franz’s position as a key player in the Semantic Graph Database technology space.
