The top big data startups at this year’s Strata + Hadoop World conference include data platform specialists along with an analytics startup focused on the gaming industry.

The winner of this year’s Startup Showcase was Nexla Inc., developers of a platform that leverages machine learning to automate data operations. Founded last year, Nexla was launched by Saket Saurabh and Jeff Williams. Saurabh is a veteran of Nvidia while Williams previously worked for Yahoo and Apple.

The startup sums its mission this way: “DataOps is the function within an organization that controls the data journey from source to value.”

Second place in the startup sweepstakes went to Dallas-based Gluent Inc., another emerging data platform specialist focused on “data liberation” from enterprise data silos into data platforms. The startup promotes its approach as linking data on-demand with enterprise applications and databases without affecting application performance.

Finishing in third place was Repable, a Toronto-based analytics startup focused on the gaming industry. Founded in September 2015, the Canadian startup says its platform aims to help enterprises such as broadcasters and sports teams “understand the financial and social impact of their day-to-day interactions within the gaming space.”

This year’s “Audience Choice” winner was Outlier AI Inc., a business analysis automation startup based in Oakland, Calif.
