Pentaho Announces Availability of Community Edition 5.0

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 20 – Delivering the future of analytics, Pentaho Corporation today announced immediate availability of the Open Source Pentaho Community Edition 5.0. Pentaho Community Edition is the newest version of Pentaho’s open source data integration and business analytics platform—a powerful set of tools for developers, promoting innovation, participation and cooperation.

The launch also includes Pentaho Marketplace, where community members can explore and download all the available plugins developed by the Pentaho Community, extending the capabilities of Pentaho’s open source platform, and allowing community members to collaborate, share feedback and create/submit new plug-ins to extend the functionality of Pentaho.

“Pentaho Community Edition 5.0 is a collaborative effort with the Community, which brings new tools and features. The Pentaho Marketplace is the centralized resource for finding, sharing and creating new extensions as we all collaborate to drive innovation,” said Pedro Alves, SVP of Community, Pentaho. “Pentaho’s Community Edition provides a low cost point of entry for those just starting out with business analytics as they look to visualize and act upon their data. Yet it’s also a robust toolset for seasoned developers, consultants and users that want an open code base to push the boundaries of what Pentaho and business analytics can do”

What’s New in Pentaho Community Edition 5.0

Working with the developer community, Pentaho has created a powerful suite of tools that provide an open source alternative for developers and data analysts to fulfill their goals. Pentaho Community Edition 5.0 includes:

  • Business Analytics Platform – Pentaho’s modern, simplified and interactive approach empowers business users to access, discover and blend all types and sizes of data. With a spectrum of increasingly advanced analytics, from basic reports to predictive modelling, users can analyze and visualize data across multiple dimensions, all while minimizing dependence on IT.
  • Data Integration – Pentaho Data Integration, also known as Kettle, delivers powerful Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) capabilities. The stand-alone application is used to visually design transforms and jobs that extract existing data and make it available for easy reporting and analysis.
  • Report Designer – The Pentaho Report Designer is a graphical designer tool that can generate reports from data streamed through the Pentaho Data Integration engine without the need for any intermediate staging tables. Output reports in formats including PDF, Excel, HTML, rich-text-file, XML and CSV.
  • Auxiliary Tools – Download a range of auxiliary tools, such as the Pentaho Aggregation Designer for a simple interface to create and deploy aggregate tables that improve the performance of Pentaho Analysis (Mondrian) OLAP cubes. TheMondrian Schema Workbench is an open source designer interface for creation and testing of Mondrian OLAP cube schemas visually (present data multi-dimensionally for users to select what dimensions and measures to explore, interactively drilling into a cross-tabulating data). Pentaho Metadata Editor provides a simplified tool for creating reports, building Pentaho metadata domains, or relational data models.
