Lex Machina Legal Analytics Applications Now Available

Sept. 20 — Expanding upon the successful roll-out of its Legal Analytics Apps offering last year, Lex Machina, a LexisNexis company, today announced two new breakthrough applications – Courts & Judges Comparator and Law Firms Comparator – that instantly deliver critical litigation information to help attorneys win cases and close business. Leveraging Lex Machina’s award-winning Legal Analytics platform, these unique apps quickly provide customized, data-driven answers for critical legal questions at the click of a button.

“Leading law firms and legal departments increasingly rely on data to make sound legal and business decisions and develop winning case strategies,” said Josh Becker, Lex Machina’s CEO. “Now attorneys have the power to compare courts, judges, and law firms at the push of a button. Our new Comparator Apps make Legal Analytics easy, enabling lawyers to compare different legal entities, and to unlock strategic insights within seconds.”

Courts and Judges Comparator enables attorneys to compare up to four federal districts and judges to gain critical insights regarding caseloads, timing to key milestones, case resolutions, specific findings, and damages. Plaintiffs’ attorneys can use the app to compare multiple districts prior to filing, to select the one most likely to provide the most favorable outcome in the shortest amount of time. Defense counsel can use the app to make data-driven decisions about whether or not to pursue a transfer of venue and, if so, to which district.

Law Firms Comparator enables powerful side-by-side comparison of up to four law firms, with instant display of a broad range of case-specific data. Companies choosing outside counsel, and law firms competing for new business, can now compare actual results produced by law firms in their open and terminated cases.

Kathryn Clune, Vice Chair of Crowell & Moring’s IP Group said: “We were an early adopter of Lex Machina because it provides data driven insight never before available about judges, lawyers, parties, and the subject matter of cases themselves, all in a matter of minutes.  With the new Courts and Judges Comparator, I can instantly compare analytics from multiple districts, on a wide range of issues, at the push of a button. This further streamlines the critical, but time-consuming, due diligence that must be undertaken to identify the best forum and strategies to achieve my clients’ goals. Combined with Lex Machina’s existing Legal Analytics, these new apps provide Crowell a critical advantage in winning lawsuits and new clients.”

Built with feedback from customers, the new comparator apps were built with extreme ease-of-use in mind. They join three existing apps in Lex Machina’s applications arsenal: Early Case Assessor which allows legal teams to quickly assess the threat posed by a new case; Motion Kickstarter which makes it easy for attorneys to draft winning motions by identifying arguments and motion styles that have succeeded before specific judges; and Patent Portfolio Evaluator which generates a complete litigation history for an entire patent portfolio in a single report.

James Yoon, a practice development leader for patent litigation at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati said:  “The new Comparator Apps are great tools for attorneys and clients who are in the process of developing and evaluating legal strategies.  The Apps do a fantastic job of quickly putting the courts, judges and law firms involved in a patent case into perspective.  They make it easy to develop a comprehensive framework for making key legal decisions. The seamless integration between the Apps and the Legal Analytics platform is very helpful.  With a few clicks, you can drill through case resolution data, metrics and outcomes for courts, judges and law firms.”

Lex Machina will launch the new Comparator Apps during a live webcast on September 22, 2016. To participate or register in advance, please visit http://pages.lexmachina.com/Webcast_Apps-Launch-915_.html
