Hortonworks Partners with LucidWorks

PALO ALTO and REDWOOD CITY, Calif.April 3 — Hortonworks, the leading contributor to and provider of enterprise Apache Hadoop, today announced a strategic partnership with LucidWorks, the company transforming the way people access information, to enable Hortonworks users to access and analyze their data via Solr, the blazingly fast, easy-to-use open source enterprise search platform from the Apache Lucene project.

The combination of Apache Solr and Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) makes big data accessible to more people within an organization, not just developers, analysts and data scientists. Under the terms of the partnership, Hortonworks will include Solr in HDP, and Hortonworks’ customers will receive support and technology from both Hortonworks and LucidWorks.

Apache Hadoop is an open source framework for distributed storing and processing of large sets of data on commodity hardware. The Hortonworks Data Platform is an open platform that integrates with existing IT systems, enabling enterprises to build and deploy Hadoop-based applications. LucidWorks, the only company delivering an enterprise-grade search development platform built atop the power of Apache Solr open source search, offers a simple, yet powerful interface for providing advanced search capabilities to non-technical users. The combination of the solutions enables users throughout the organization to easily access and gain insight from big data sets that were previously accessible only to developers, analyst and data scientists.

“We are very excited to be working with Hortonworks because we share the same vision of bringing everyone in an enterprise into the big data conversation,” said Will Hayes, Chief Product Officer at LucidWorks. “This partnership makes Apache Solr the defacto big data search platform of choice for all Hortonworks customers and is further validation of our leading role in solving the big data search challenge.”

“Because Apache Solr doesn’t require complex script development to do searches or access and identify patterns in data, our partnership with LucidWorks will dramatically accelerate the time to value for companies that are ready to make a major investment in big data,” said Tim Hall, Vice President of Product Management at Hortonworks. “The use of Solr will also democratize access to big data, which is critical to enabling companies to realize the full value of their information.”

Tony Jewitt, vice president of Big Data Solutions at Avalon Consulting LLC strongly endorses the partnership.  “Our customers have been selecting these two technologies on their own and asking Avalon to integrate them.  But now, this combination of LucidWorks and Hortonworks provides our clients with a seamless platform for deploying search-based applications running on HDP.  It’s the perfect solution for analyzing social media, chat sessions, emails, documents and many other sources of big data.”
