DataRobot’s VP of AI Trust Selected for New Federal Advisory Committee on Data for Evidence Building

BOSTON, Sept. 1, 2020 — DataRobot announced that Ted Kwartler, VP of AI Trust, has been appointed to a new Federal Advisory Committee on Data for Evidence Building. As a member of the committee, Kwartler will provide strategic guidance related to the ethical use of federal data.

In his role at VP of AI Trust, Kwartler leads a team of more than 40 software engineers, data scientists, and developers dedicated to building trust throughout every aspect of the DataRobot enterprise AI platform. His team recently released Humble AI, which is a feature governing AI decisions when the algorithm doesn’t have confidence in its prediction. Kwartler’s appointment to the committee is a reflection of DataRobot’s industry-leading commitment to ethical, fair and explainable AI.

The Federal Advisory Committee on Data for Evidence Building is hosted by the Office of the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce. The committee’s goals are to accelerate the use of data to support the foundations of democracy, deliver on mission, serve the public, and steward resources while protecting security, privacy, and confidentiality.

“We believe AI is the future but that it needs to be built in a trustworthy and explainable way,” said Kwartler. “I’m humbled to bring my expertise and knowledge of Trusted AI to this new advisory committee and look forward to continuing to advocate for reliable, governable AI that can aid in decision making across the government.”

Members of the advisory committee were selected from nominated experts in government data policy, privacy, technology, transparency, evaluation, and research. In addition to experts from outside government, the committee is chaired by the Chief Statistician of the United States and  includes senior leaders from agencies including chief data officers, evaluation officers, and statistical officials established by the Evidence Act.
