California COVID-19 Data is Now Available to Public via Snowflake Data Marketplace

SAN MATEO, Calif., July 30, 2020 –Snowflake, the cloud data platform, announced a partnership with the State of California to deliver public access COVID-19 data via the Snowflake Data Marketplace. The dataset is available now and includes case data from the California Department of Public Health, as well as hospital and lab data. The State of California has been using Snowflake’s single, integrated cloud data platform to support its response to COVID-19. The State of California is using the Snowflake platform to store and analyze a multitude of datasets to help support better government decision making related to outbreak response and future planning. Data including the current number of COVID-19 cases across the state, total suspected cases, number of residents receiving treatment in a hospital ICU, available and in-use hospital beds and ventilators, and the demographics of COVID-19 patients will now be available publicly for organizations via the Snowflake Data Marketplace.

The Snowflake Data Marketplace is built on top of Snowflake’s Secure Data Sharing technology, and provides an easy-to-use platform for organizations to find, share, and list content. Traditional data transfers are cumbersome, risky, and costly, and often leave recipients with stale data. On the Snowflake Data Marketplace, sharing data doesn’t require making a copy which means users have access to ready-to-query, near real-time data from the State of California, which can be combined with other data sources to generate even deeper insights.
