Big Data Career Notes: May 2022 Edition

In this monthly feature, we’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest career developments for individuals in the big data community. Whether it’s a promotion, new company hire, or even an accolade, we’ve got the details. Check in each month for an updated list and you may even come across someone you know, or better yet, yourself!


Marcella Arthur, Michael Hughes, Haniel Ilouz, and Rina Serlin

Duality Technologies appointed Marcella Arthur as its vice president of global marketing. Arthur comes to Duality from Unbound Security (acquired by Coinbase), where she led the company’s marketing practice, after a string of appointments at companies including Microsoft and Mimecast. At Duality, she will ensure marketing strategy is integrated with sales objectives and help advance Duality’s brand awareness.

In addition, Duality Technologies appointed Michael Hughes as its chief business officer. Hughes also comes to Duality from Unbound Security, where he served as CBO. Before that, Hughes led six firms through either successful acquisition or IPO, including Bonfire Interactive, WatchDox, Watchfire, and Delano Technology. 

Haniel Ilouz joined Duality Technologies as its vice president of engineering, Prior to joining Duality, Ilouz held engineering leadership roles in large companies such as HP and served as a VP of engineering at startups including Cyren and Feedvisor, as well as at several government organizations. At Duality, Ilouz will productize Duality’s technology and ensure that a growing engineering team is integrated into Duality’s new GTM strategy.

Lastly, Rina Serlin joined Duality Technologies as its vice president of human resources joining the team. Serlin has over 15 years of experience in HR leadership across vastly different organizational structures- from small startups to multinational enterprises. Rina’s past experience includes leadership positions at HP – Indigo, Nova Measuring Instruments, and Komoona. 

Katie Bianchi 

Splunk Inc promoted Katie Bianchi to the role of senior vice president and chief customer officer. With over 20 years of experience, she joined Splunk in 2018 and last year was named SVP of customer success. Bianchi has held Splunk leadership roles in technical support, customer success management, renewals, and strategy and operations during her tenure.

“We are dedicated to ensuring our customers can oversee their increasingly complex environments and use data to drive critical decisions, actions and outcomes,” said Bianchi. “It is an honor to lead Splunk’s world-class customer success and professional services team as we proactively partner with organizations to help them achieve faster time to value, strengthen their security posture, accelerate digital transformations and enhance resilience.”

Barbie Brewer, Bonney Pelley, and Jason Seeba

mParticle, a provider of customer data infrastructure solutions, appointed Barbie Brewer as its chief people officer. Brewer brings to mParticle over 20 years of experience in human resources and building corporate cultures. Previously, Barbie served as a VP of HR at Netflix.

Bonney Pelley joined mParticle as the company’s chief operating officer. She comes to the company from New Relic, where she served as senior vice president of strategy and operations. Pelley brings to mParticle more than 25 years of senior management experience. 

Lastly, mParticle appointed Jason Seeba as its chief marketing officer. Seeba joined mParticle from eightfold.ai, where he held the role of senior vice president of marketing. He also has held senior marketing management roles for Dynamic Signal and Bloomreach. 

Geoff Clark, Phillip Cockrell, Joanne Harris, and Derek Yammarino

Striim, Inc. appointed Geoff Clark as its vice president and general manager of the EMEA region. Clark will be responsible for sales, marketing, and operations throughout Europe and the Middle East. Clark joined Striim from Aerospike in 2022 having grown the EMEA business since 2017.

Phillip Cockrell joined Striim as its senior vice president of business development. Cockrell brings Striim over 20 years of industry experience to Striim. He will be responsible for building Striim’s partner ecosystem across customers, partners, and third-party vendors.

Striim appointed Joanne Harris as its chief marketing officer. Harris brings to Striim over 25 years of enterprise IT marketing experience driving growth and transformation. She will be responsible for all Striim’ global marketing.

Lastly, Striim appointed Derek Yammarino as its chief revenue officer.  Yammarino will be in charge of worldwide sales, marketing, customer success, and solutions consulting.  He has over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing in the software industry.

Steffan Davies, Greg Ursetta, Sam Weibel

Soda, the provider of data reliability tools and observability platform, appointed Steffan Davies as its sales director of the UK&I region. Davies has two decades of experience in sales and business development, driving growth and international expansion at companies including Wolters Kluwer and Collibra.

Greg Ursetta joined Soda as its vice president for sales in the North American region. Ursetta brings to Soda 30 years of sales experience, having previously worked at Collibra, SAP Business Objects, and YourDataConnect. 

Lastly, Sam Weibel joined Soda as its sales engineering lead. Weibel brings to Soda 30 years of experience in a range of roles including six years at Collibra and five years as AVP at Merrill Lynch.

logDNA logoRob Fry and Joe Pynadath 

LogDNA, providers of an observability data platform, appointed Rob Fry as its chief technology officer. As CTO at LogDNA, Fry will drive new product innovation and category leadership. Fry most recently served as CTO at Armorblox and also served in engineering and security leadership roles at Netflix. 

In addition, Joe Pynadath joined LogDNA as its chief revenue officer. At LogDNA, Pynadath will be responsible for driving the company’s growth across all revenue streams and creating the foundation for future revenue streams and go-to-market strategies.

Ram Himmatraopet 

Infoworks.io appointed Ram Himmatraopet as its senior vice president of sales. Himmatraopet will lead and accelerate the growth of the sales organization to meet the increasing demand for cloud data migration solutions. 

“I’ve seen firsthand the complexity and challenges of migrating data to the cloud.  Infoworks offers a truly disruptive innovation that breaks the barriers of large-scale cloud data and workload migration,” said Himmatraopet. “I’m excited to join a team that is so focused on the customer. By simplifying and accelerating cloud data migration, Infoworks is dramatically improving the time to business value for enterprises as they deal with unprecedented levels of change.”  

Jason Janicke

Alteryx, Inc., the analytics automation company, appointed Jason Janicke as its senior vice president of sales in the EMEA region. Janicke will be responsible for leading Alteryx’s business strategy, business activities, and operations in the region.

“It is an exciting time to join the company on the heels of the recent launch of Alteryx Analytics Cloud and investments in a new, expanded partner program. As businesses strive to move from data collection to driving real insights, Alteryx helps customers extract value from the mountains of data they accumulate,” said Janicke. “I’m excited to lead the talented EMEA team and help customers across the region unlock the power of data with the Alteryx industry-leading and easy-to-use analytics automation platform.”

Sophie Kitson and Tej Redkar

Sumo Logic, the SaaS analytics platform to enable reliable and secure cloud-native applications, appointed Sophie Kitson as chief human resources officer. Kitson brings a strong track record of building talent-centric organizations and the operational systems that allow them to scale at innovative companies such as Mercury Interactive, Salesforce, Nimsoft and PagerDuty.

In addition, Tej Redkar joined Sumo Logic as its chief product officer. Redkar has led various engineering, product management, UX and data science teams at many companies including Microsoft, Cisco/AppDynamics, IBM and SAP. He most recently was the CPO at LogicMonitor, where he led a product development team of several hundred engineers and product managers.

Martin Klein

C3 AI, the enterprise AI software company, announced that Major General Martin F. Klein, USAR (TPU) has joined its executive team to oversee the company’s defense and intelligence operations. General Klein most recently served as the chief operating officer of the Department of Defense’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center.

“I look forward to building on the work of the trusted professionals from C3 AI who are bringing enterprise AI to solve some of our nation’s hardest problems,” said Klein. “Our defense and intelligence communities are on the precipice of fully embracing all the potential that commercial software and data provide to overmatch near-peer adversaries and assuring information dominance. I can’t think of a better software platform, or company, to accelerate our nation’s security transformation into the digital era.”

John Langton 

AtScale, the provider of semantic layer solutions for modern business intelligence and data science teams, appointed John Langton as its vice president of AI engineering. Langton will oversee the development of technical strategy and architecture delivery, and work closely with customers to innovate on new approaches to integrate the AtScale semantic layer with AI to accelerate time to value and drive business outcomes.

“AtScale is a high energy organization focused on the convergence of AI and traditional business analytics,” said Langton. “I am honored to join the company during this exciting time of rapid growth and to be part of the AI solutions that are shaping the future for insight-based decision making that is driving businesses forward.”

Amit Levi 

Anodot, the business monitoring company, promoted Amit Levi to the position of chief marketing officer. Levi was promoted from his role as vice president of growth and marketing and brings over 15 years of experience to the role in the fields of marketing, product, and data. 

“Throughout my career as a data expert, I dreamed of building what we’ve built here at Anodot,” said Levit. “Giving customers the ability to autonomously monitor the two main pillars of their business – costs and revenue – helps them leapfrog ahead of competitors and grow their business effectively. I am excited to be part of such an extraordinary team and to take on new responsibilities and challenges within Anodot, especially at this pivotal moment of growth for the company.”

Abhi Madhugiri

Dataiku, the platform for everyday AI, appointed Abhi Madhugiri as its vice president of global technology alliances. He brings over 15 years of technology business development experience having served leadership positions at DataRobot, AppDynamics, and Evergent. 

“I read the book Ikigai a couple of years ago which sits on my desk every day…” said Madhugiri in a LinkedIn post. “What I didn’t realize when I accepted this role is that I was joining a company where Ikig.ai was a core part of who we are as Dataikers. My belief in the culture, people, and product is further reaffirmed and I’m humbled to have the opportunity to lead a talented team engaged with our Technology Alliance partners. The best is yet to come and we are just getting started!”

Nohyun Myung

Mperativ appointed Nohyun Myung as its vice president of applied data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Myung will be responsible for leading the development of new Mperativ platform capabilities. Before Mperativ he built and scaled high-functioning, multi-disciplinary teams at OmniSci at Kinetica. 

“Throughout my career, I’ve become acutely familiar with the immense challenges that go-to-market teams face when trying to get a comprehensive and accurate picture of the customer journey,” said Myung. “As the world sprints towards becoming more prescriptive and predictive, having operational tools and platforms that can augment business without having to build it in-house will become essential across B2B organizations. I look forward to working with the talented team at Mperativ to bring the true value of AI to marketing leaders so they can better execute engagement strategies that produce their desired revenue outcomes.”

Kieran Penwill, Chris Sassone, Mike Sheppard, and Jeff Whitaker 

Panasas, a provider of high-performance data solutions, appointed Kieran Penwill and Chris Sassone as its sales directors of EMEA and APAC, respectively. In addition, Mike Sheppard joined Panasas as its global director of channels and alliances, and Jeff Whitaker joined the company as its vice president of marketing and product management. 

“I’m thrilled to announce these new appointments,” said Brian Peterson, chief operating officer of Panasas.“The ActiveStor Ultra product line has received high praise from both established and new customers, and Panasas has enjoyed a sharp increase in demand over the last 18 months. As a result, we are investing further in our teams and our products to support our expanding global customer base.”

Richard Petley

Teradata appointed Richard Petley as its executive vice president of the EMEA region. With more than 20 years of experience, Petley joins the team from Oracle, where he was senior vice president of the Western Europe region for Oracle Cloud, and managing director of Oracle UK.

“Having watched Teradata’s impressive growth within the EMEA region from afar, I’m incredibly excited to be joining the team to support the sales function to help scale even further,” said Petley. “As an organization, Teradata’s core vision and principles align fully with mine, and I look forward to both strengthening existing customer and partner relationships in the region and further building the pipeline with my own network and experience.”

Mubbin Rabbani and Ram Rangaraj

CLARA Analytics, the provider of artificial intelligence technology in the commercial insurance industry, appointed Mubbin Rabbani as its vice president of product. Rabbani has over 15 years of product management experience focusing on commercial insurance claims.

In addition, CLARA Analytics appointed Ram Rangaraj as its chief technology officer. Rangaraj is a veteran IT leader with over two decades of experience at Kaiser Permanente, where he served in a range of technology leadership roles, most recently as Senior Director of Revenue Management Integration Engineering.

Chandra Rangan

Neo4j appointed Chandra Rangan as its chief marketing officer. Rangan joins Neo4j from Google, where he ran Google Cloud Platform product marketing and more recently, product-led growth, strategy, and operations for Google Maps Platform. 

“I’m excited to join Neo4j during this period of rapid transformation for the company, the users, and the organizations we serve,” said Rangan. “Several things drew me to Neo4j, starting with the opportunity to fundamentally reshape the database market and the potential to advance data science by applying the richness of relationships for predictive accuracy and AI/ML data pipelines. I look forward to playing a part in continuing Neo4j’s leadership momentum in shaping the modern data stack.” 

Naama Saar

SQream Technologies appointed Naama Saar as its chief operating officer. Saar will be responsible for executing the company’s strategy and vision and will lead the product, R&D and delivery teams worldwide to provide a superior customer experience for their partners and customers.

“SQream has innovative unique technology that enables enterprises to have full-picture visibility to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and obtain previously unobtainable business insights”, said Saar. “I look forward to delivering unmatched customer experiences and driving growth at scale as the industry evolves.”
