Big Data Career Notes: April 2019 Edition

Ralf Gommers

Quansight has announced that Ralf Gommers has taken a position as the new director of Quansight Labs as of April 1. Gommers most recently served as a data scientist at FPInnovations, and previously worked for Scion, ASML and Philips Research.

“I have long been impressed with Ralf’s community-minded spirit and willingness to serve the SciPy, NumPy, and PyData communities even while working full-time at another job,” wrote Travis Oliphant, CEO of Quansight. “I’m thrilled that Quansight can support him directly in devoting his full-time job to helping the NumPy ecosystem directly.”

Ash Gupta

H2O.ai has announced that financial services executive Ash Gupta has joined the company’s advisory board. “Ash is a living legend that led the transformation of risk and financial services with data. Our customers and partners are excited for the opportunity to draw upon the depth of his experiences to transform every vertical with AI. I’m thrilled to have his brilliance and wealth of relationships by my side,” said Sri Ambati, CEO and founder at H2O.ai.

“I am keen in learning from the brilliant people and customers of H2O.ai.  I am excited about contributing to the success of H2O.ai as it serves diverse industries,” said Mr. Gupta. “We are fortunate to be at this unique moment in history and H2O.ai remains one of the most prolific partners impacting the most fundamental functions of its customers and partners.”

Aaron Kalb

Alation Inc. has announced that Aaron Kalb has been appointed as the company’s first chief data officer (CDO). As CDO, Kalb will lead a centralized team dedicated to Alation’s data governance, self-service analytics, security, and compliance initiatives as well as best practices on the proper use of data and data literacy initiatives.

“Alation’s vision is to empower a curious and rational world. My mandate is simple: to promote curiosity, rationality, data-driven decision-making, and data culture within Alation and around the world,” said Kalb. “I’m super excited to work with and learn from the incredible community of CDOs across our customer base, from Salesforce in San Francisco to Sainsbury’s in London, and advance our vision and values throughout many organizations.”

Dan Streetman

TIBCO has announced that Dan Streetman has been appointed as its new chief executive officer, effective April 15. Streetman led global field operations at BMC software and held senior roles at software companies such as Salesforce, C3, Amdocs and Siebel Systems. Streetman also served in both active and reserve military assignments.

“In this transformative time for every industry in the global economy, customers are leveraging exponentially more data to power their digital enterprise. TIBCO’s cloud-native platform helps customers interconnect everything and convert that data into real-time, actionable insights,” said Streetman. “I’m excited to lead this iconic and innovative company into a new phase of accelerated growth.”
