Data management vendors continue to target the growing number of cloud-native NoSQL database applications while shifting their platforms to Docker containers to handle microservices-based apps.

Among them is Rubrik, which this week rolled out the latest version of its data protection platform upgraded to handle cloud-based applications on NoSQL databases, including Cassandra and MongoDB. Version 3.0 of the Datos IO platform is intended to provide backup and recovery for NoSQL workloads that are steadily shifting to the cloud.

The latest Rubrik data manager also adds support for Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud along with previous support for Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, the company said Wednesday (Sept. 12).

Among the upgrades is a database-recovery capability for both Cassandra (DataStax) and MongoDB as part of Rubrik’s data protection framework for NoSQL workloads. As more workloads shift to MongoDB (NASDAQ: MDB), the company said the upgraded data manager included the ability to recover to and from changing database clusters.

Meanwhile, Rubrik is doubling down on the enterprise shift to hybrid and multi-cloud database deployments by offering the ability to manage NoSQL databases deployed as Docker containers. That capability would allow infrastructure teams to move data across datacenters and between multiple clouds, the company said.

Along with Docker application containers, the upgraded platform also supports Amazon Machine Image, the public cloud giant’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) virtual appliance used to create a virtual machine instance in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.

“The market has spoken, and NoSQL databases now power the fastest-growing, mission-critical applications in the enterprise,” said Tarun Thakur, Rubrik’s general manager for Datos IO. The upgraded data management platform therefore addresses growing data protection requirements for production applications, Thakur added.

Rubrik, Palo Alto, Calif., announced support for the Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) cloud last year along with application support for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Azure Stack and new services connected with the AWS government cloud.
