Data Deals Heat Up
It’s looking more like buyers’ market as the number of data analytics deals grows.
Seeking to break out of the pack of business intelligence and analytical tool vendors, Tibco Software said it would acquire data science platform vendor Statistica.
Separately, NGDATA, a “customer experience management” vendor, said Tuesday (May 16) it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Eccella Inc., a data management and analytics consultancy based in New York City.
Tibco said its acquisition of Statistica is expected to close “in the coming weeks. Details of the deal were not disclosed.
Tibco, Palo Alto, Calif., said Monday (May 15) Statistica would add new capabilities to its analytics platform, including emerging Internet of Things analytics.
In 2014, Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE: DVMT) integrated Statistica’s platform into its data management software portfolio. Statistica, Tulsa, OK, got its start as a data platform for university research but soon branched out into predictive analytics.
Tibco said it would fold the Statistica’s technology into its analytics platform dubbed Insight as a way of reaching a broader user base. “Statistica will provide rigorous modeling and validation tools for machine learning and deep learning,” the company noted in a statement.
The platform also would be combined with Tibco’s Spotfire technology that underpins its Insight analytics platform. “We are focused on making that technology a smart, one-stop shop for analytics,” added Mark Palmer, Tibco’s senior vice president for analytics.
Tibco is among a crowded field of business intelligence and analytics platform vendors that includes market leaders Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Olik. The acquisition of Statistica could provide Tibco with a boost as its seeks to break out of a pack of what market watcher Gartner Inc. (NYSE: IT) dubs in its latest industry rankings as a business intelligence “visionaries.”
Meanwhile, NGDATA of Belgium added to a recent string of acquisitions with a deal to buy the analytics-consulting firm Eccella Inc. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2010, Eccella specializes in data management and analytics, frequently partnering with software vendors to develop platforms for a range of industries. NGDATA said the deal would allow it to expand its presence in North America and the U.K.
The acquisition is the latest in a series for NGDATA, which last October acquired the Dutch customer engagement specialist Rednun. Earlier, NGDATA acquired Enqio, a European consulting firm focusing on data management and business analytics.
