Arcadia Upgrades Visual Analytics Platform

The latest version of Arcadia Data’s enterprise platform sharpens the visual analytics software vendor’s focus on generating data-driven applications with the long-term goal of making Hadoop and data lakes more accessible.

Arcadia Data, San Mateo, Calif., is positioning its upgraded visual analytics platform released this week as a bridge between business users and self-service access to big data for driving emerging applications. Arcadia claims its web-based visual analytics tool served directly from Hadoop addresses a shortfall in many big data projects that are hampered by business intelligence and visualization tools that analyze only a limited portion of the data extracted by Hadoop and other data platforms.

That’s because most visualization and business intelligence tools work by sending SQL queries to data stored in HDFS and then move the results over the network to a separate box that drives the analytics and visualizations. That approach introduces limitations in the amount of data that can be visualized, and can be expensive and time-consuming.

Arcadia Data argues that conventional tools often “break at big data scale.”

Hence, the new platform targets “citizen” data scientists as well as analysts working on applications ranging from cyber-security and digital marketing campaigns to using data visualizations for regulatory compliance and whipping Internet of Things data into shape.

Arcadia Data’s technology partners includes Cloudera, MapR and Trifacta.

Arcadia Data said this week its Enterprise 4.0 platform would be available during the second quarter.
