Actian Acquires ParAccel

Isaac Lopez

After broadening its offering last week with the acquisition of Pervasive Software for $161.9 million, data management company, Actian, has acquired high performance analytics company ParAccel.

Central to ParAccel’s technology offering is a high performance analytic database designed for fast query performance at scale. The company also has a library of over 500 mathematical analytic functions for analyst to employ.

“ParAccel is being used by many of the world’s leading companies including Amazon, The Royal Bank of Scotland, OfficeMax and MicroStrategy to set them apart from their competition through analytics,” said Chuck Berger, CEO of ParAccel. “With Actian, they have immediate access to a broader portfolio of solutions to turn their data into value.”

Actian looks towards integrating these advanced analytic capabilities to bolster their array of databases, including their flagship Vectorwise data platform, which they claim offers performance gains of 70x to 100x over competing offerings due to software optimizations that maximize system performance.

While the acquisition figures have not been revealed, recent funding estimates for ParAccel approach $90 million from such partners as Amazon, Walden International, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Silicon Valley Bank.
