Zettaset Boosts Big Data Protection for IBM Power Systems servers with Enterprise-Class Encryption for Hadoop and NoSQL Databases

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 20, – Zettaset, a leader in Big Data security, today announced it has successfully completed integration of Zettaset’s Big Data Encryption software solution, BDEncrypt™, with IBM’s Power Systems scale-out servers running Linux.

IBM POWER8 customers seeking an encryption solution which is optimized for Big Data environments and distributed computing architectures including Hadoop and NoSQL can now utilize Zettaset BDEncrypt.  BDEncrypt with IBM Power Systems is designed to deliver a high level of compute performance and solution scalability in even the largest big data environments.  The combined solution runs on a standardized version of Apache Hadoop and can be installed and managed with Apache Ambari, enabling operational compatibility in any Open Data Platform (ODP) Hadoop environment.

IBM POWER8 scale-out servers with Linux are high-performance, enterprise systems optimized to meet the demands of large-scale, mission-critical applications. IBM Power Systems with POWER8 are designed for big data and analytics and run with industry-standard Linux OS.  Clients can run big data applications like Hadoop directly on Linux on Power Systems servers in dense, rack-optimized form factors, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

“Businesses want the open framework of Apache Hadoop supported by an enterprise approach to data protection that does not compromise system performance,” said Terri Virnig, VP, Power Ecosystem and Strategy at IBM. “The innovative combination of Zettaset BDEncrypt with IBM POWER8 scale-out servers enables businesses to deploy and manage multiple, business-critical workloads across a single platform architecture with all the data protection, performance and scalability they require.”

Unlike open-source approaches, Zettaset delivers a standards-based, Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) and Public Cryptography Standard (PKCS)#11-compliant encryption solution for Big Data that enables IT security organizations to leverage existing investments in key managers and hardware security modules (HSMs).  Zettaset BDEncrypt meets customer requirements for a common and consistent encryption framework throughout the data center, regardless of the type of database or file system.

“Security is still considered a major barrier to broader adoption of Hadoop in the enterprise. To address that problem, Zettaset is providing customers with a proven, commercial-grade, KMIP-compliant encryption solution which is performance-optimized for Big Data architectures encompassing Hadoop, NoSQL, and other databases while delivering the highest levels of data protection,” said CEO Jim Vogt of Zettaset. “Our advanced solution is also aligned with the ODP initiative to simplify and accelerate deployment in standardized Hadoop installations.”
