Tokutek Introduces TokuMX v2.0 for MongoDB

LEXINGTON, Mass., Sept. 30 — Tokutek, delivering database performance at scale, today announced TokuMX v2.0, the second generation of the company’s flagship MongoDB distribution. In addition to a number of new capabilities and enhancements available in both editions, the company also introduced several new features and capabilities only available in TokuMX Enterprise Edition.

TokuMX helps MongoDB users with the most challenging big data applications dramatically improve performance and significantly reduce hardware costs with unmatched database compression, concurrency, and write optimization.

New Features and Enhancements in TokuMX Enterprise Edition:

  • Improved Multi-directory Hot Backup – The improved hot backup features transcend the previous single directory restriction enabling TokuMX users to perform hot backups across different data and log directories.
  • New Point-in-time Recovery – Instead of joining a running replica set to recover, TokuMX users can select recovery up to a given point-in-time or transaction ID.
  • New Auditing – TokuMX now supports auditing the same actions as MongoDB Enterprise Edition. In addition, TokuMX users may use include and exclude filters that enable auditing based on user, database, and action.

New Features and Enhancements Available in TokuMX Community and Enterprise Editions:

  • Improved Fast Updates – Updates for unindexed fields are more than 10x faster through better use of Fractal Tree indexing capabilities while eliminating read-before-write behavior.
  • New Ark Election Protocol – Makes replication trustworthy and more ops-friendly via a new algorithm that ensures TokuMX maintains consistency across network partitions. As a result, TokuMX ensures that any write that is successfully acknowledged with majority write concern is never lost.
  • Smaller Oplog Entries – TokuMX now optimizes oplog entry size significantly reducing the size of the oplog for many entries.
  • New Geospatial Index Support – TokuMX is now Geospatial-compatible with MongoDB 2.4.

“Tokutek has proven ability to deliver performance gains for MySQL, and more recently MongoDB, with its Fractal Tree indexing technology,” commented Matt Aslett, research director, data platforms and analytics, 451 Research. “We continue to see growing interest in MongoDB for new application development projects, and TokuMX provides additional capabilities that make MongoDB more suitable for high-performance workloads.”

“TokuMX v2.0 fulfills many of the engineering aspirations that date back to the product’s inception,” said Dave Rosenlund, vice president of marketing at Tokutek. “With v2.0, Tokutek delivers a faster, more performant data store that meets the DevOps challenges of today’s big data environments.”
