Simba Introduces ODBC, JDBC Drivers for Couchbase Server 4.0

VANCOUVER, B.C., Oct. 6 — Today Simba Technologies Inc., the worldwide leader in Big Data connectivity, announced the release of the Simba ODBC and JDBC Drivers for Couchbase with SQL Connector. The drivers support the just-announced Couchbase Server 4.0, the high-performance, open-source NoSQL distributed database. The Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers for Couchbase data enable users to enjoy seamless connectivity from their Couchbase database to their BI tool (or tools) of choice.

“Couchbase Server 4.0 represents a leap forward in NoSQL data management,” notes Simba Technologies CEO Amyn Rajan. “Now Couchbase 4.0 users can enjoy out-of-the-box connectivity to their preferred BI platform.”

The new Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers for Couchbase deliver several key innovations:

  • Standards-based connectivity: The Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers support ODBC 3.8 and JDBC 4.0 and 4.1, and extend Couchbase’s JSON data model to leading BI tools like SAP Lumira, Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, MicroStrategy, or Microsoft Excel.
  • SQL on NoSQL: The Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers for Couchbase with SQL Connector enable Couchbase users to get at their NoSQL data using native, ANSI-92 SQL query capabilities.
  • N1QL compatibility: N1QL (“Nickel”) is Couchbase’s flexible query language, and the Simba ODBC and JDBC Drivers with SQL Connector work with N1QL… natively. With the Simba drivers, data scientists can leverage the speed of Couchbase Server and the flexibility of N1QL under the hood, all while using their own SQL-query expertise to their advantage.

The development of the Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers for Couchbase was a collaborative effort.

“Couchbase’s partnership with Simba has made it easier for our other partners to build integrations with Couchbase,” says Rod Hamlin, Vice President of Business Development at Couchbase. “The availability of N1QL and what we’re doing in this space has opened up a whole world of new partnerships and a strong NoSQL ecosystem,” says Hamlin. “[Much] of that has been enabled through our technology partnership with Simba.”

“The Internet of Things represents massive opportunities for NoSQL leaders like Couchbase,” notes Simba Technologies CTO George Chow. “We’re already seeing widespread deployment of micro-devices, and significant uptake of NoSQL technologies like Couchbase. With Simba ODBC and JDBC connectivity, Couchbase users will be able to connect innovative new IoT technologies to their analytics tools.”

Simba Technologies’ connectivity drivers — including connectivity solutions for Couchbase, SQL Server, DynamoDB, Redshift, Spark, MongoDB, Cassandra, Google BigQuery, HBase, Hive, Impala, Salesforce, and SAP data sources — are available for individual, enterprise, and OEM licensing.
