SAS Analytics Now Available in AWS Marketplace

DALLAS, Tex., April 27 –– In an expansion of its cloud analytics strategy, SAS is offering free SAS software via Amazon Web Services (AWS) for students, educators, researchers and anyone who wants to learn SAS. SAS University Edition was first launched in May 2014 as a free download onto a standalone PC, Mac or Linux workstation. Availability through AWS Marketplace means quick and easy access to SAS software running on AWS — no download required.

Concerns about an analytics skills gap are escalating as unprecedented demand for analytics talent outpaces qualified applicants. Free access to SAS software via SAS University Edition puts the most advanced statistical methods and techniques into the hands of anyone ready to develop analytical knowledge and skills.

“Making SAS available in AWS Marketplace lets many more users put SAS University Edition to work,” said Robby Powell, Principal Product Marketing Manager for Cloud and Platform Technologies at SAS. “To close the analytics skills gap, we want to make analytics software available to anyone curious about finding answers. With its global footprint, AWS Marketplace enables SAS to reach a broader audience and educate more SAS users.”

Part of AWS in Education, the new service combines powerful, easy-to-use SAS Analytics with the on-demand capabilities of AWS Cloud. SAS University Edition in AWS Marketplace is eligible for the AWS Free Tier program, which provides free access to first-time AWS subscribers for 12 months, up to 750 hours a month (subsequent AWS usage fees apply).

“We are thrilled SAS software is now available in AWS Marketplace,” said Barry Russell, Head of Global Business Development for AWS Marketplace, Amazon Web Services, Inc. “With SAS University Edition, customers around the globe have access to deploy the software instantly, learn SAS and develop valuable business analytics skills.”

Today’s announcement builds on an existing relationship with AWS. Last August, SAS announced offerings that work on Amazon Redshift, Amazon Elastic MapReduce and AWS Test Drive. Customers such as Lenovo and FANCL are running SAS on AWS, creating highly flexible, scalable analytics in the cloud to execute their big data and Hadoop initiatives.

SAS provides customers with access to industry-leading analytics to address their business concerns, regardless of where their data resides — in on-premise environments, the SAS Cloud, hybrid IT architectures, or on a public cloud. In 2014, SAS’ revenue from cloud offerings grew 24 percent worldwide.

Today’s announcement was made at SAS Global Forum, the world’s largest gathering of SAS users, attended by more than 5,000 business and IT users of SAS software and solutions.
