Saint Peter’s University Becomes a Member of Cloudera’s Academic Partnership

JERSEY CITY, N.J., April 25 — Saint Peter’s University today announced its official membership in Cloudera’s Academic Partnership. Cloudera is the leader in analytic big data management powered by Apache Hadoop, an essential tool for working with big data. The agreement will provide the master’s program in data science with industry-leading resources to help streamline and accelerate the adoption of Hadoop. Cloudera has developed the Academic Partnership program to help bridge the big data talent gap and to aid in the development of the next generation of data scientists.

The Cloudera Academic Partnership provides faculty and students with training on Hadoop and offers access to authorized data science course materials and software. Students will also receive discounts on Cloudera data science training courses and Cloudera Data Science Certification exams, which will ultimately provide them with market-recognized credentials beyond their degrees.

“Saint Peter’s is very proud to join the select group of colleges and universities that are members of the Cloudera Academic Partnership,” said Jeffrey Handler, vice president of enrollment and marketing at Saint Peter’s University. “There is no question that the field of data science is growing and the current workforce lacks the necessary skills to meet the demands of today’s organizations. This partnership will provide our students with the theoretical and practical experience they need to succeed in the big data industry.”

The Saint Peter’s University master’s degree program in data science with a concentration in business analytics will be offered beginning in the fall of 2014. The degree program integrates computer science, statistics, machine learning, and Hadoop with data-based business management principles to inform business intelligence. The program is the first of its kind in the N.Y./N.J. area. The curriculum reflects the most current approaches to the management of data science technology as developed by leaders in the industry such as Cloudera, IBM and Oracle Corporation.
