Qubole Data Service Being Utilized by TubeMogul

May 22 — Qubole, the big data-as-a-service company founded by the team that developed Facebook’s data infrastructure, today announced that video advertising platform, TubeMogul, is using Qubole Data Service (QDS) for data analytics across the organization. With more than 30 users across TubeMogul’s marketing, business intelligence, machine learning, and engineering teams regularly using Qubole’s big data in the cloud platform, TubeMogul has doubled the amount of data processed in half the time, while reducing costs by 33 percent.

“Qubole’s web-based console simplifies the process of setting up and scaling clusters and managing accounts,” said Adam Rose, Chief Technical Officer of TubeMogul. “Analysts are able to use SQL and schedule queries to be executed at pre-defined intervals instead of writing scripts or Python code. Making our business users self-sufficient got us where we wanted to be.”

TubeMogul’s software enables brands and advertisers to buy video advertising in real-time across multiple devices and formats using one comprehensive platform. The company’s video advertising business employs big data analysis from ad serving, targeting, optimization, brand lift measurement and more.

One of the biggest priorities at TubeMogul was to make data easily accessible to non-engineering groups. Big data was in high demand across the whole organization. For example, marketing sought insights to educate customers and establish insights around best practices and trends. Marketing research analysts needed to understand trends in viewability, inventory available, price and much more. The machine-learning team sought to make TubeMogul’s advertising more relevant by optimizing the process of presenting the right ad to the right person at the right time.

Qubole Data Service is a self-service platform for big data analytics that runs on the three major public clouds: Amazon AWS, Google Compute Engine and Microsoft Azure. QDS is a fully managed big data offering that leverages the latest open source technologies, such as Apache Hadoop, Hive, Presto, Pig, Oozie, Sqoop and Spark, to provide the only comprehensive cloud-based data analytics platform complete with enterprise security features, an easy to use UI and built in data governance.

“TubeMogul has fully embraced big data in the cloud and is reaping the benefits of it every day,” said Ashish Thusoo, co-founder and CEO of Qubole. “It is also a great example of how making data accessible to core teams across the business, and even to partners and clients, creates tremendous value. We’re proud to call TubeMogul a customer and we continue to see strong traction in the ad tech and marketing tech market.”
