Plexxi and PSSC Labs Partner to Deliver Big Data Application

NASHUA, N.H., April 8 — Plexxi, a pioneer of next-generation networking products and SDN market leader, today announced a partnership with PSSC Labs, a manufacturer and provider of high-performance server equipment for Big Data Applications. The partnership combines Plexxi SDN switching and control with PSSC high-performance compute and Cloudera enterprise to deliver a fully integrated, end-to-end certified solution for scale-out Big Data applications. The integrated offering, CloudOOP Big Data Pod, empowers enterprises for the first time to deploy Big Data/scale-out applications across multiple racks inside a single datacenter or across multiple datacenters located anywhere in the world.

The CloudOOP Big Data Pod offers a cost-effective way to significantly reduce operational and capital network expenses while dramatically improving Big Data application performance and scale. The solution integrates Plexxi’s Big Data Fabric offering with PSSC Labs’ CloudOOP 12000 server platform for a combined end-to-end Cloudera certified solution for Hadoop environments. The CloudOOP Big Data Pod offering combines the Plexxi switch and controller with PSSC Labs’ Big Data servers for a single, integrated offering that scales Cloudera environments to unprecedented scale while removing performance related issues typically caused by restrictive and bandwidth-limited networks. The bundled solution offering will be delivered in a single half-rack occupying a minimal data center footprint, and is easy to scale-out by simply adding additional racks that can operate as a single fabric. The offering will be made available through the companies’ reseller networks.

“The Plexxi and PSSC Labs integration will provide companies with a top to bottom service offering that creates unprecedented performance, visibility and control over Big Data workloads,” said Mat Mathews, co-founder and vice president of product management, Plexxi. “In addition to directly impacting how our customers operate, it will help both our companies grow in our efforts to tap into the big data market and continue to develop products that directly address customer needs.”

Plexxi’s Big Data Fabric solution is designed from the ground up to be integrated as a converged infrastructure solution with cluster, storage and analytics provisioning and management systems including Cloudera’s Enterprise Data Hub solution. These systems can provide valuable information to the Plexxi’s SDN controller that renders specific topologies for individual Big Data jobs to improve performance, isolate sensitive data or prevent interference to or from other workloads.

Plexxi’s Big Data Fabric solution enables Cloudera and other Hadoop environments to reach unprecedented scale, creating expansive, multi-location, high-bandwidth clusters that deterministically change forwarding topologies across multiple sites in a single fabric. Plexxi’s simple and direct, single-tier switching architecture reduces layers of networking complexity by enabling a Big Data Fabric with fewer switches, fewer interconnect ports, and fewer cables, significantly reducing operational and capital network expenses.

Plexxi’s open architecture approach allows PSSC Labs to bring a more integrated solution to its customers that can be deployed in a seamless turnkey environment. PSSC Labs’ CloudOOP 12000 is the world’s first and only enterprise server designed specifically for Hadoop, offering the highest possible storage density, inside a highly energy-efficient server. Using PSSC Labs’ Direct Connect IO design, the CloudOOP 12000 offers significantly faster data IO rates, ideal for Hadoop, Enterprise Data Hub, Data Lake or Big Data Analytics environments.

“We pride ourselves on partnering with companies that share the same vision for providing end-user solutions that lower the total cost of ownership in the network,” said Alex Lesser, Vice President of PSSC Labs. “This partnership will allow the absolute easiest means to deploy a Big Data /Hadoop environment with the lowest total cost of ownership.”
