New Members Added to BlueData Advisory Board and Executive Team

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 9 — BlueData, pioneer of Big Data private clouds, today announced the appointment of two industry heavyweights to the BlueData team. Dr. Ion Stoica, founder of Databricks, joins the BlueData Technology Advisory board and Anant Chintamaneni joins BlueData as vice president of Products. Stoica and Chintamaneni join an impressive group of industry executives at BlueData from leading technology companies such as Facebook, Intel, Netflix, Nutanix, NetApp, Pivotal, SGI, VMware and Yahoo.

An accomplished scientist and author, Dr. Ion Stoica is CEO and founder of Databricks, the company founded out of the University of California, Berkeley AMPLab by the creators of Apache Spark. He is also Conviva’s co-founder and CTO, driving the technical advancement of the Conviva media and control platform. Prior to Conviva, Dr. Stoica spent over 15 years involved in networking research, which has led him to develop techniques and architectures that allow powerful and flexible network services to be deployed on the Internet, without compromising scalability.

Dr. Stoica joins fellow industry luminaries — a virtual “who’s who” of leading executives who have built critical infrastructure for companies such as Facebook, ServiceNow, NetApp, Netflix and VMware. This distinguished group now includes:

  • Dhruba Borthakur — Software Engineer, Facebook
  • Mike D. Kail — CIO, Yahoo
  • Steve Kleiman — Senior Vice President and Chief Scientist of NetApp
  • Mike Nelson — Former Fellow, VMware
  • Frank Slootman — President and CEO, ServiceNow

“Kumar and I share the common vision that Spark provides a phenomenal platform for realizing the value of Big Data,” said Ion Stoica, founder and CEO of Databricks. “The barrier for on-premise deployments is the complexity and rigidity of the infrastructure. Working with BlueData makes it an order of magnitude easier for customers to take advantage of Spark in private cloud deployments. I’m excited to join the BlueData advisory board and work with Kumar on our shared mission to dramatically simplify big data infrastructure for any size business.”

Anant Chintamaneni brings more than 14 years of Big Data experience to his role of vice president of Products at BlueData. Mr. Chintamaneni is responsible for spearheading product development, as well as driving the go-to-market strategy for the BlueData platform. Prior to BlueData, Chintamaneni was Head of Product Management and Strategy for Pivotal’s Business Data Lake portfolio that included Pivotal HD, HAWQ SQL-in-Hadoop, GemfireXD In Memory Processing and Machine Learning Runtimes. While at Pivotal, he established Pivotal HD as the Hadoop platform for data-driven applications, streamlined field enablement and grew the installed user base by over 400 percent in just over a year. Prior to Pivotal, Chintamaneni was head of Big Data Analytics Solutions at Merced Systems (acquired by NICE Systems), where he created a new Analytics business division that resulted in multi-million dollar annual subscriptions.

“I’m excited to join such a talented team with a big vision and laser focus on making Big Data accessible to all,” said Anant Chintamaneni, vice president of Products for BlueData. “BlueData is redefining the Big Data provisioning and consumption model for self-service, speed and scale. I look forward to paving the path for this game-changing product that will eliminate infrastructure complexity, the final barrier to realize the potential of Big Data to deliver business value.”

“Ion and Anant are important additions to the team as we come out of stealth and launch BlueData into the market,” said Kumar Sreekanti, CEO and co-founder of BlueData. “Ion’s outstanding body of work, most recently his role in developing the Spark platform, is invaluable to fulfill our aligned goals to bring the promises of Blue Data to all businesses. With Big Data veteran Chintamaneni at the helm of BlueData product development and go-to-market strategy, we are well-primed for our upcoming launch.”
