Metis Acquires Booz Allen Hamilton’s Explore Data Science Program

NEW YORK, N.Y., Jan. 21 — Data science training provider Metis has acquired Booz Allen Hamilton’s Explore Data Science program, a leading online resource designed to introduce common data science theories and techniques to individuals looking to learn more about the world of data science. Originally created by Booz Allen Hamilton in 2013 as a training program for its team of nearly 600 data science professionals, Explore Data Science will now be available on the Metis web site (www.thisismetis.com/explore-data-science-online-training) to anyone with an interest in the data science field.

Users will have two months access to the interactive, gamified 40-hour Explore Data Science program, custom-designed for software developers, mathematicians, or other technical professionals with basic skills and proficiency in programming. Professionals and aspiring professionals in the software development, data science, engineering, mathematics, academia, statistics, investment and financial fields are particularly well suited for the galactic and planetary-themed resource. Upon completion, users will have experience in the following data science techniques: distance metrics, dimensionality reduction, transformations, aggregations, clustering, regression, classification, recommendation, and genetic algorithms.

The acquisition of the online training adds to an expanding suite of data science programs for the Kaplan-owned Metis, which has quickly established itself as a leading data science training provider. Metis’s offerings include the industry’s only accredited intensive data science bootcamp (operating in New York City and San Francisco), courses in data visualization with D3.JS and Big Data including Hadoop and Spark, as well as professional development and corporate training. Metis also recently hired noted data scientist, physicist and STEM advocate Dr. Deborah Berebichez as its Chief Data Scientist, a newly created role.

Explore Data Science is just one example of how Booz Allen has been an innovation leader in the data science field, as it is an exceptional tool for providing introductory training on data science fundamentals to a broad audience. Booz Allen anticipated the need for this kind of training and created an engaging, interactive program to ensure a common foundation of knowledge and skills for data science professionals,” said Jason Moss, co-founder and general manager of Metis. “We’re thrilled to make Explore Data Science available to a wider audience, especially as we continue to see high employer demand for data scientists.”

Even as the median salary for data scientists stands at almost $125,000, according to CareerCastMcKinsey and Company reports that by 2018, 140,000-190,000 job postings for data scientists will go unfilled.

“Metis saw the potential in giving Explore Data Science a broader platform, alongside the company’s arsenal of high-quality data science offerings,” said Mark Jacobsohn, Senior Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton. “We’re excited that the result pairs exceptional educational experience with our unparalleled data science expertise to make this program even more accessible to anyone interested in this field.”
