MapR Teams With Google Cloud Platform

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 24 — MapR Technologies, Inc., provider of the top-ranked distribution for Apache Hadoop, announced it has teamed with Google Cloud Platform to provide $500 of credit to spend on Google Cloud Platform services for each registrant with its free Hadoop On-Demand Trainingprogram. With more than 25,000 professionals already enrolled in the program, this new incentive gives students an opportunity to complete labs using Google’s industry-leading cloud infrastructure at no charge, further supporting Hadoop skills development.

The $500 credit is available only to students registered for MapR On-Demand Training classes.  This permits them to create virtual environments to complete the required lab exercises in each course. After completing the lab exercises, students can continue to use the environment to try out Google Cloud Platform services like Google Compute Engine, Google BigQuery, or the recently announced Google Cloud Storage Nearline.

“Working with Google Cloud Platform on this training initiative is strong validation of the demand for skilled Hadoop professionals and the huge momentum we’ve achieved since we launched this program in late January,” said Dave Jespersen, vice president, worldwide services, MapR Technologies.  “MapR is revolutionizing Hadoop training by bringing to market a free, on-demand, interactive and engaging experience for data professionals and, with Google Cloud Platform, we are providing additional resources to extend their education and hands-on experience with Hadoop.”

The curriculum in the free MapR Hadoop On-Demand Training Program provides engaging and interactive video lessons, hands-on exercises, labs and quizzes, enabling professionals to acquire valuable Hadoop skills and knowledge on their own schedule.  Coursework includes the same level of depth and content as instructor-led training.  New courses have recently been added to expand the breadth of content available, including MapR Distribution EssentialsApache Drill Essentials and Apache Drill Architecture. The program also offers exams leading to certified Hadoop professional designations for developers, data analysts and administrators.

To redeem the credit, register for MapR training and follow the instructions provided within the training portal.
