Hortonworks Now an EMC Select Partner

SANTA CLARA, Calif.Aug. 4 — Hortonworks, Inc., the leader in Open Enterprise Hadoop, today announced it has signed a reseller agreement with EMC, becoming a Select partner in EMC’s Technology Connect Partner Program. The agreement enables EMC to resell Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), the industry’s only 100-percent open source data platform powered by Apache Hadoop. EMC customers will now have a simple way to procure Open Enterprise Hadoop as a complementary component of their data architectures to enable a broad range of new applications, as well as enrich existing ones with additional data sources.

This agreement builds upon Hortonworks and EMC’s existing relationship. In February 2015, Hortonworks and EMC announced HDP as one of the Hadoop offerings on the EMC Isilon Data Lake Foundation. The integration and certification of HDP on the EMC Federation Data Lake enable users to utilize the only Open Enterprise Hadoop solution that has been engineered and rigorously tested to ensure optimized HDFS deployment. Additionally, both Hortonworks and EMC are members of the Open Data Platform initiative, an industry effort focused on simplifying adoption of Apache Hadoop for the enterprise.

“EMC is a global leader in enabling providers to transform their operations, and we are excited to be accelerating our partnership,” said Shaun Connolly, vice president, corporate strategy, Hortonworks. “Through this reseller agreement and becoming an EMC Select partner, we look forward to working strategically with EMC to assist our collective customers and partners to adopt Open Enterprise Hadoop as a complementary component of their data architectures.”

“EMC and Hortonworks have a deep existing relationship, and over the last several months have collaborated to certify the Isilon products with Hortonworks Data Platform in order to optimize Hadoop for the EMC customer base,” said Sam Grocott, senior vice president, product marketing and management, emerging technology division, EMC Corporation. “The inclusion of Hortonworks Data Platform in EMC Select further enhances our Big Data initiative to enable EMC sales and channel partners the opportunity to offer an end-to-end Big Data solution.”

With new emerging data sources and exponential data volume growth, enterprises are turning to Open Enterprise Hadoop to meet their big data needs. HDP together with EMC Isilon storage running the OneFS operating system provide a complete, tested and secure solution encompassing Apache Hadoop and related projects or leveraging a data lake to maximize the value of information. The certification and testing between OneFS operating system and HDP along with collaborative efforts between EMC and Hortonworks ensures customers have a secure and optimized Hadoop platform on Isilon.
