FirstBPM Signs OEM Deal with Kx Systems to Deliver Data Analytics Platform

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 18 — Kx Systems, a leader in high-performance database and time-series analytics, today announced it has signed an OEM partnership with FirstBPM, a global provider of business process management integration software. As part of the deal, FirstBPM will deploy kdb+ to greatly enhance the speed and performance of its data analytics processes.

Previously, FirstBPM used MySQL database technology for real-time data manipulation. However, the company needed technology better equipped to store and analyze large quantities of information quickly. FirstBPM will embed kdb+ into its business process management platform and portal to replace MySQL. As a result, customers will benefit from more efficient internal business processes, including significantly improved data integration, analysis and execution.

Ahmet Sencer Ferhat, CTO at FirstBPM, said, “Rising data volumes create a big challenge, both in terms of storage and the ability to mine it to gain meaningful insights. The problem was that we’d outgrown our old setup and it became clear we needed a new approach. Kdb+ stood out from competing products because it combines on-disk and in-memory technology for rapid access to data sets. By removing the need to extract data for analysis, customers will be able to ask more queries and get the results far more quickly.”

The technology will be available to FirstBPM customers across a wide range of industries, including telecommunications, ports, energy, finance and manufacturing and is expected to handle around 10 terabytes of data.

Janet Lustgarten, CEO of Kx Systems, said, “We’ve seen a strong uptake of our technology in the OEM market and FirstBPM joins our growing list of clients in this space. Kdb+ is ideally suited to the OEM market, where companies are continually looking for smarter ways to solve customers’ data challenges. We know that speed and performance are top priorities and this deal is an important endorsement of our ability to deliver both.”

Kdb+ is a high-performance column-store database with a built-in expressive query and programming language, q. Used as a central repository to store time-series data within an enterprise, kdb+ supports real-time analysis of billions of records and fast access to terabytes of historical data.
