Dresner Publishes Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study

NASHUA, NH, July 22 — Dresner Advisory Services today issued a new report on Advanced and Predictive Analytics, defined as the use of statistics, modeling, machine learning, and data mining to analyze facts and make predictions about future, or otherwise unknown, events. The report, part of the Wisdom of Crowds series of research, provides an in-depth look at this important and growing phenomenon.

The first edition of the Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study was written in collaboration with industry expert Neil Raden. The report showed that while many of these tools have been available for decades, as a whole they are still in the early stages of deployment. Less than 30 percent of the respondents show Advanced and Predictive Analytics tools deployed within their organizations, with another 30 percent planning to deploy it in the next 18 months.

“We are very excited to slice into the broader market of business intelligence and provide detailed data and context around the growing segment of advanced and predictive analytics,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services.

“One clear conclusion we can draw is that there is a substantial gap in adoption of advanced and predictive analytics (A&PA) between the industry-messaging machine of vendors, media, and analysts, and the actual people who generate analytical output in organizations. While awareness of the importance of A&PA is high, adoption and practice are far from universal,” said Neil Raden.

In terms of usability and functionality, respondents indicated that scalability of analytic tools is most important, particularly in the technology, consulting, and financial services segments, with a strong emphasis on in-memory and in-database analytics.

Wisdom of Crowds research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market.
