DataTorrent Joins the Open Data Platform Initiative, Brings Real-Time Processing of Data-In-Motion to ODP

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 21, – DataTorrent, the leader in real-time big data analytics and creator of DataTorrent RTS, the world’s first enterprise-grade unified platform for both stream and batch processing on Hadoop, today announced it joined the Open Data Platform (ODP) as a Silver member. In addition, DataTorrent RTS is certified and immediately available on the ODP Core. DataTorrent is focused on reducing time to market, increasing ROI and enabling success of big data projects. Joining ODP brings DataTorrent’s platform to an initiative also focused on accelerating the adoption of Apache Hadoop® and enterprise-class big data solutions.

“The DataTorrent RTS unified batch and streaming platform enables enterprises to dramatically reduce time-to-insight and time-to-action on data-in-motion and data at rest. By joining the Open Data Platform and certifying DataTorrent RTS on the ODP Core, we demonstrate our continuing commitment to meeting the needs of customers on every commercial Hadoop distribution,” said Phu Hoang, co-founder and CEO, DataTorrent. “Becoming an ODP member aligns perfectly with our focus on ease of adoption and support for the larger Hadoop ecosystem.”

DataTorrent is one of a select number of solutions included in the Open Data Platform initiative, joining industry-leading firms such as IBM, EMC, Hortonworks, VMware, Verizon, Splunk and Pivotal. Membership is further confirmation of DataTorrent’s ongoing support for Hadoop YARN, HDFS and rapid analytics. DataTorrent was the first YARN-native Hadoop 2.0 application and continues to be tightly integrated with the Hadoop ecosystem. DataTorrent has a history of contributions to the Hadoop ecosystem and Apache open source community, including projects like Koya – Kafka on YARN – and the Malhar Library.

Over 16 companies are now executing on the vision of the Open Data Platform, which is to accelerate the delivery of big data solutions around a common core. We are pleased that DataTorrent is joining the ever growing chorus of companies looking to advance the state of Apache Hadoop and big data technologies,” said Leo Spiegel, senior vice president of corporate development and strategy, Pivotal.

For enterprises, data is being generated faster and faster and coming from a growing number of sources. Organizations are struggling to keep up with the volume and need to take action more quickly to realize business impact. DataTorrent RTS enables faster time to insight and to action for both batch and stream processing, delivering a platform for increasing revenue and reducing operational inefficiencies, crucial elements to the ODP’s overarching mission
