DataTorrent Integrates With Cisco ACI

NEW YORK, N.Y., Sept. 29 — DataTorrent, the leader in real-time big data analytics and creator of DataTorrent RTS, the world’s first open-source, enterprise-grade unified platform for stream and batch processing on Hadoop, today announced the integration of DataTorrent RTS with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) through the Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC). The integration will help to create highly secure, more efficient IT operations, bringing together network operations management and big data application management and development.

“By taking advantage of the Cisco ACI open Application Programming Interface, development teams such as DataTorrent’s can integrate with ACI to create powerful solutions that deliver even more value to their customers,” said Ish Limkakeng, vice president of product management, INSBU, Cisco. “With the DataTorrent integrated solution, organizations will be able to rapidly process large streams of data and manage network resources more efficiently to achieve faster time to insight in a highly secure, high performance and highly scalable architecture.”

DataTorrent RTS provides a single, unified batch and stream processing platform that enables organizations to reduce time to market, development costs and operational expenditures for big data analytics applications. With DataTorrent RTS, organizations can streamline their batch and streaming data processing with a data pipeline approach. Analyzing data while it is in motion and automating actions drives faster business value, while still preserving existing business practices for ad-hoc processing.

Cisco ACI is a comprehensive Software Defined Network (SDN) solution, which integrates physical and virtual environments under one policy model across networks, servers, storage, services and security. ACI’s policy-based automation supports a business-relevant application policy language, greater scalability through a distributed enforcement system and greater network visibility. ACI automates IT tasks, reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) and greatly accelerates the entire application lifecycle.

Integration with DataTorrent RTS and Cisco ACI provides a unified management architecture for enterprises to manage their big data applications along with network and security, enabling easier and more efficient unified batch and stream processing.

The joint solution will enable:

  • A unified fabric approach for managing data and the network
  • A highly secure and automated big data application platform which uses the power of Cisco ACI for automation and security policy management
  • The creation, repository and enforcement point for Cisco ACI application policies for big data applications

The Joint solution will be available in Q4 CY 2015.

“Organizations today are looking at single points of automation and interoperability of their applications,” said John Fanelli, vice president of marketing, DataTorrent. “Traditionally, network management and application management were two separate work efforts and teams, but the unified approach drives more security, scalability and visibility, ultimately reducing time to insight for customers.”

“The new customer challenges are too demanding and complex for one provider to solve, combining technologies from different ISVs as an integrated offering has been key in the success of our Big Data practice,” said Juan Guevara, VP of big data solutions at Trace 3, which is a channel partner to both Cisco and DataTorrent. “We are very excited to be involved in the integration of Cisco ACI and DataTorrent because it gives us an opportunity to offer an agile and powerful Big Data platform to our growing customer base.”
