DataScience and the NSF’s West Big Data Innovation Hub to Host Workshop

LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 31 —  DataScience, Inc., a data analytics company, announced it is collaborating with The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) West Big Data Innovation Hub to host a workshop on ‘The Science of Data-Driven Storytelling’ June 16, 2016. The one-day event, held at DataScience’s new Los Angeles headquarters, brings together thought leaders in academia, government, publishing, and technology industries to discuss how to create and promote impactful data-driven stories. The workshop will feature breakout sessions for hands-on learning and presentations from industry experts.

“Whether you are a student researcher gathering community input or a government program manager seeking private sector collaborators, today’s data science innovators need to communicate their work to various audiences,” notes Meredith Lee, Executive Director of the West Big Data Innovation Hub. “Workshop participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at the data innovation efforts underway with the Chief Data Officer of Los Angeles, media outlets, and scientists working on everything from smarter cities to precision medicine. We’ll share best practices and help teams develop a collection of data-driven stories that spark engagement and further the scale and impact of their projects.”

DataScience’s collaboration with the NSF’s West Big Data Innovation Hub is a strategic component of its mission to unlock the value from data. The hands-on learning event is the first of several educational opportunities from both co-hosting organizations and will feature speakers from the City of Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Times, DataScience, and the University of Southern California.

“Big data is only as impactful as how it is communicated and used to drive action,” said Ian Swanson, CEO, DataScience, Inc. “Knowing how to extract value from data and positioning it in a meaningful way is now a necessity for businesses and organizations. We’re thrilled to partner with the NSF’s West Big Data Innovation Hub on this event. We’re paving the way for industry leaders to unlock the value from their data and turn that information into compelling and impactful stories that build awareness, drive engagement, and deliver results.”
