Cloudera Adopts Simba Drivers to Power JDBC Connectivity for Impala and Hive

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 4 — Simba Technologies Inc., the enterprise leader in standards-based connectivity solutions for relational and multi-dimensional data, today announced that Cloudera, the leader in enterprise analytic data management powered by Apache Hadoop, will embed Simba JDBC drivers in its Impala and Apache Hive commercial distributions. The move follows closely on the heels of Cloudera’s adoption of Simba ODBC drivers for its Impala query engine and Apache Hive CDH components last summer.

“We chose Simba again in part because of their leadership in connectivity to the next generation data management technologies,” says Tim Stevens, vice president, Corporate and Business Development, Cloudera. “Cloudera customers value the Impala query engine for its performance, stability, and extensibility. Simba JDBC drivers offered Cloudera the fastest and most interoperable connectivity out there.”

Cloudera Impala is the industry’s leading massively parallel processing (MPP) SQL query engine that runs natively in Apache Hadoop. Apache Hive is Hadoop data-warehousing infrastructure. Both are essential components of Cloudera’s Commercial Distribution of Hadoop (CDH). And now both leverage the speed, interoperability, and native SQL query support of embedded Simba JDBC connectivity drivers.

“Cloudera has always been a leader in the Hadoop world,” says Simba Technologies CEO Amyn Rajan. “And now Cloudera users have the best in connectivity, whether they’re using JDBC or ODBC.”

“Simba JDBC drivers for Impala and Hive adhere strictly to the JDBC connectivity standard,” notes Simba Technologies CTO George Chow. “For Cloudera, that represents smoother connectivity and better interoperability for Impala and Hive with any and all BI tools like Tableau, SAP Lumira or Microsoft Excel.”
