Big Data Clouds Gather Over Old World Conference

Jose Luis Vazquez-Poletti

While cloud computing becomes a mature technology, challenges arise for each milestone reached. As early research efforts where devoted to execution services, new fronts have been opened to the management of big data.

The increasing data being handled to cloud services for processing and storage is only the peak of the iceberg. Deployment and migration of virtual machines, the cornerstones of this computing paradigm, are also an important part of the big data in clouds challenge.

This is the starting point of the “management of big data in clouds” track at the Third International Conference on Emerging Intelligent Data and Web Technologies (EIDWT-2012) that will take place at University Politehnica of Bucharest (Romania) on September 19-21.

This conference is dedicated to the dissemination of original contributions that are related to the theories, practices and concepts of emerging data technologies yet most importantly of their applicability in business and academia towards a collective intelligence approach.

In particular, EIDWT-2012 will discuss advances about utilizing and exploiting data generated from emerging data technologies such as Data Centers, Data Grids, Clouds, Crowds and Mashups. Thus, the scope of EIDWT-2012 is to discuss methods and practices which bring various emerging data technologies together to capture, integrate, analyze, mine, annotate and visualize data made available from various community users. EIDWT-2012 aims also to provide a forum for original discussion and prompt future directions in the area.

Returning to the recommended conference track above, critical elements of data management on clouds will be discussed. These elements range from infrastructure aspects such as fault tolerance, to application level use cases, such as data intensive algorithms and MapReduce instances.
