Big Data Career Notes (July 2016)

In this monthly feature, we’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest career developments for individuals in the big data community. Whether it’s a promotion, new company hire, or even an accolade, we’ve got the details. Henry Morris

Henry Morris, IDCThe International Data Corporation (IDC) has named Dr. Henry Morris an IDC Fellow for big data, analytics, and cognitive software research. He will work with a team of global analysts to research these three areas. Dr. Morris has been with IDC since 1995 and holds the position of Senior Vice President, Worldwide Software, Services, and CMO Advisory Research.

“Henry has been a long time thought leader in big data, analytics and cognitive software, and will be working with our world class team to further IDC’s position as the leading research firm in this space. We believe the impact of cognitive computing will span many industries and use cases. As IDC invests in creating new research around the evolution of the 3rd Platform, we are making the commitment to dedicate one of our most senior research executives to these growing market segments,” said Kirk Campbell, President and CEO of IDC.

Lakshmi Randall

Lakshmi Randall, DenodoLakshmi Randall has joined Denodo as the company’s new head of product marketing. She has over 19 years of experience in information management and analytics product marketing, research, and analysis of emerging and disruptive industry trends. Before joining Denodo, Randall was an independent analyst and strategist in information management and analytics. She has also worked at Gartner as a research director and at Microsoft as a big data subject matter expert.

“Denodo has long been recognized as the innovative leader in data virtualization, and I’m very excited to head up the company’s product marketing efforts and to help drive its next stage of growth,” said Randall. “My focus will be to increase the awareness of the Denodo brand and product offerings through multiple channels, and to promote data virtualization as the agile integration technology of choice for digital businesses seeking a competitive edge.”

Confluent has announced new additions to its leadership team. Cheryl Dalrymple is the company’s new CFO, Luanne Dauber is the new CMO, and Todd Barnett has been named vice president of worldwide sales.

Dalrymple has a 20-year history serving as CFO for a number of different companies. She held this position at Polyvore before joining Confluent earlier this year.

Dauber also has 20 years of experience in her field. She joins Confluent from Pure Storage where she was the vice president of marketing. Prior to Pure Storage, Dauber worked as the senior director of product planning and product marketing at Altera.

Barnett joins Confluent from Acquia where he was VP, Sales Americas. He has over 19 years of sales experience.

TrendMiner has appointed Bill Muldoon to its board of directors. He is an oil and gas executive with more than 30 years of industry experience. He recently retired as executive vice president of AVEVA. Muldoon is also a senior member of the International Society of Automation (ISA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).Bill Muldoon

Mike Allen has joined Zoomdata as the vice president of product. He has a long history of working with enterprise software companies and most recently served as the vice president of product management at Marketo.

Dean Fox has also joined Zoomdata as the company’s new head of sales for the Asia Pacific region. His last position was at Pathfinder Oil and Gas where he served as vice president of business development. In his past, he also held senior positions in sales and business development at IBM and Oracle.

“2016 has already been a very exciting year for us, from a $25 million funding round to partnerships with Amazon Web Services and Google and some great inroads in the Federal marketplace as Gartner named us a Cool Vendor,” said Justin Langseth, CEO of Zoomdata. “Mike and Dean have the experience to help us accelerate our growth in new territories and innovate key features for our customers.”

Chris Sullivan, DataXuChris Sullivan has been named CFO of DataXu, a company that uses data science to assist with marketing. Sullivan joins DataXu from Gazelle where he served as CFO before becoming the CEO. He has more than 30 years of experience in the high technology, e-commerce, and financial services industries.

“As a financial leader who has always sought to optimize return on marketing investment, I am excited to be part of a company that helps top advertisers and agencies do exactly that,” Sullivan said. “DataXu has a strong finance team and an even stronger programmatic marketing and analytics solution for advertisers, and we are well positioned to deliver on the growth opportunity in front of us.”
