MongoDB Plans ‘Giant’ Event in June

Staff report

Senior executives from tech giants Google and IBM along with financial services infrastructure managers are scheduled to deliver keynotes addresses at database vendor MongoDB’s annual conclave in June.

MongoDB, Palo Alto, Calif., said this week its list of keynoters also includes Adam Savage, co-host of the Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters. Other speakers joining Savage include: Eric Brewer, Google’s vice president of infrastructure; Hannah Fry of the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London; Jeff Chapman, chief architect of Capital One’s Shared TECH; and Sree Kotay, chief software architect and head of technology design and development at Comcast.

The roster of keynote speakers also includes two IBM tech executives: Terri Virnig, vice president of Power Systems Software Solutions; and Ross Mauri general manager of IBM z Systems and LinuxOne. (IBM unveiled Linux mainframe servers last summer that among things target real-time transaction and other business analytics applications running in datacenters.)

MongoDB CEO Dev Ittycheria and Eliot Horowitz, co-founder and CTO, will also deliver keynotes during the conference.

The database vendor said the conference also would feature technical sessions with panels that include MongoDB customers such as: BNP Paribas, the French global bank and financial services firm (EPA: BNP); Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO); Facebook (NASDAQ: FB); and the soccer streaming service FuboTV.

The MongoDB conference targets developers building applications based on the company’s NoSQL database technology, operators managing MongoDB clusters along with CTOs and CIOs.

MongoDB World ’16 is scheduled for June 28-29 at the Hilton Midtown Hotel in New York City. Organizers said a “startup showcase” and an innovation awards ceremony are also scheduled during the two-day event. The deadline for submitting nominations for the MongoDB innovation awards is March 30.

Consistent with the database company’s “giant ideas” theme for the meeting, musical entertainment will be provided by the alternative rock band, They Might Be Giants.
